Students and teachers will explore computer science by programming robots, writing code, engaging in digital citizenship and literacy activities and learning about the role computers play in day-to-day life. They’ll also learn about different careers in this field through guest visits by professionals and see if this might be a career for them.

Why are we celebrating computer science?
It’s simple - computer science touches on every part of our daily lives, from work to school to home.
It is an innovative field that allows students to be creative problem-solvers and apply their knowledge and skills in authentic ways. It is relevant to all areas of study, encourages collaboration and critical thinking, and allows for personalized learning. Because of this, computer science can be viewed as a 4th literacy for the 21st century.
Computer science also opens the doorway to some of our economy’s best opportunities. 70% of jobs in the next few years will be in STEM fields. Of those, an overwhelming 70% are in computer science. Many of these jobs drive innovation and are leading to significant improvements in our lives. But even for non-STEM jobs, computer science is relevant. Think of basic skills like word processing, navigating the internet, or using a smart device. These kinds of skills are increasingly necessary for success in the 21st century job market.
Computer Science Education Week helps raise awareness in our schools and community about the importance of this field as well as the opportunities it brings. To learn more:
As an educator, you can have the largest impact on students during CSEd Week.
Extend CS Ed learning beyond the school day with resources to get involved at home.
